In addition to all of the other events that occurred throughout the month of June that were mentioned in my previous post, an open-air auto show was constructed in Parco Valentino (which is just a few meters from where I live). The first annual Parco Valentino Salone & Gran Premio featured several production cars, motorsport competition vehicles, and design concepts from 25 automotive companies and design centers. Even better, entrance to the show was an unbeatable price…free. Again I was very glad to have taken the Aerodynamics course this past semester. Being able to understand the purposes of certain components on both the production cars and especially the competition cars made the experience all the better. Among the incredibly impressive cars, the Ferrari FXXk especially stood out. The car itself is an improved version of the Ferrari LaFerrari (which is already an amazing vehicle). Ferrari will produce less than 40 of these hybrid hypercars (each boasting 1050bhp and a €2.5 million price tag). The already sold out car won’t even be taken home by owners, but kept and maintained by Ferrari. Ferrari will organize drive events where owners will be able to fly in to drive their cars. The car itself is beautiful and an aerodynamic masterpiece.
On the last day of the show, the cars from the show as well as many privately owned historic vehicles and supercars were paraded through the streets of Torino from Parco Valentino to Reggia di Venaria. If this was the turnout for the first year of the auto show’s existence, I can only imagine the cars that will be showcased in years to come as the event grows.
