Not too long after classes began, some friends and I organized a trip to Switzerland. The main purpose of this weekend trip was to attend the auto show in Geneva. Due to the high cost of housing in Geneva, we decided to rent an Airbnb in nearby Lausanne, Switzerland and just drive over to the auto show on Saturday. Our German buddy, Thies, drives a red Opel convertible named Pepe. Despite the bitter cold and wind, we decided to cruise through the alps with the top down. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the incredible views of the alps.
Saturday was motor show day. I was amazed at the size of the exhibition area. Every automobile manufacturer I could think of plus several I’ve never heard of had an area showcasing their newest and most exotic cars or concepts. The following photos only show a small fraction of the cars that were present. We arrived only a couple hours after the showroom opened and we were one of the last to leave. It was a very full day trying to get a good look at all of the nice cars.

Our last day in Switzerland was spent exploring the city of Lausanne and driving back to Torino. We spent the morning driving through the nearby hills and vineyards. As afternoon approached, we parked the car on a street not too far from the city center, and went about exploring the city and trying to find a place for lunch. What we didn’t realize was that the entire city essentially closes down on Sundays. We had a pretty rough time trying to find an open restaurant besides McDonalds, but eventually we did find a pretty good burger shop. Just before setting off again for Torino, we arrived back at Pepe to discover that someone had broken into the trunk of the car and taken three of the four bags that had once been there. Yes, we were robbed in one of the most affluent countries in the world during broad daylight. I lost a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff, but luckily I had my wallet, passport, and camera with me. As frustrating as it is to get robbed, in the larger scheme of things it’s only stuff. Stuff can always be replaced.
